Not every company is going to be about the products that they sell, especially if you’re working in the service industry. For the small business owner, quite often you’re going to be the only employee or at least the sole backbone of your company. I know a friend who owns his own small business in the railroad industry called Railway Service Contractors that does a variety of jobs, including buying and selling locomotives. Now, when this friend of mine first got started the primary selling point for the business was his knowledge of the field. He had years worth of experience and contacts to allow him access to a lot of information other people might not know. Large companies came to him to have jobs done because they knew that even if he couldn’t do the job himself he would know who could. Most people form a small business because they have a particular knowledge that a lot of people don’t know about, and in order to properly promote yourself you need to make sure people know just how good you are at what you do. Center your color printing around things such as booklets to explain details about your field most people wouldn’t necessarily know, or if you have the money get some brochures printed up covering all of the different jobs you can accomplish. Another avenue is finding local groups you might be able to give speeches at. The point of this is to get to a wider audience of people specifically in your industry, or close to it, that can see how well versed you are in your field. If you want to reach an even larger audience you might consider different publications within your field you could write articles for. This could be online websites or this could be magazines that you know target the very people you’re trying to get business from. This can be one of the most effective styles to advertise yourself to a broader audience due to the fact that you are able to focus on the niche market by appearing in the very magazines that this niche reads. If you’re good enough at writing them you can find yourself with a great continuous form of marketing beyond the normal color printing. The only cost you’ll have to you is the time it would take to write your articles and the postage to send them in. You’ll establish yourself as an expert in your field, draw the biggest audience possible, and make your name well known among the people who will need your business. Any service industry business is going to survive based on the strength of the person running it. You don’t have the benefit of a great product people simply need. Your job is to tell them that you are the right person for them. If you make yourself an expert in your field, this becomes a lot easier to do.
